Medical Device Molding

Every medical molding project is unique. Whether yours requires a high- or low-volume run. Whether your component has been in production for years, or has never been beyond the medical device prototyping stage. Whether its form can be described as simple or intricate complexity. Vesta brings medical device molding technological expertise and practical execution across the full spectrum of these variables.

Liquid Injection Molding (LIM)

LIM is the ideal medical silicone molding process when volume, speed and precision are critical. The ability to run with a lower injection pressure means less variation, tighter tolerances and consistent quality. LIM brings faster cycle rates that fill high-volume orders quickly. And, because all of this takes place within a closed system, the clean room molding process is extremely clean. In addition, Vesta’s LIM lines use fully automated robotic machines and semi-automatic liquid silicone molding equipment to create repeatable precision and manufacturing efficiencies.

Transfer Molding

For shorter production runs or when silicone gumstock is specified, Vesta offers custom transfer medical molding capabilities. Intricate shape, undercut and thin walls are possible with specially designed molds and the right material. Pre-mixed gumstock is heated then injected through gates and sprues into the mold cavities at pressures of 2,000 to 8,000 psi. Cycle times are relatively short and custom molds are accommodated with ease. For this reason, transfer molding can be especially useful in medical product development.

Insert Molding

The full realization of your device often calls for inserts encapsulated in silicone. Standard medical molding injection presses are not ideally equipped to handle inserts. So when your project calls for the insertion of ancillary components into the silicone, Vesta utilizes medical device molding machines that are designed to create securely integrated molded entities.
